MSF Denounces Israeli Airstrike Near Beirut Medical Facility

The humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders, commonly referred to by its French abbreviation MSF, has strongly denounced an Israeli military strike that occurred mere metres from the Rafik Hariri Public Hospital in Beirut, a densely populated urban area. MSF is now advocating for the safeguarding of civilians and healthcare infrastructure.

The organization reports that the aftermath of the attack saw a massive influx of patients at the hospital, with individuals arriving in a state of distress, some carried on the shoulders of others. According to MSF, within the first hour of the Israeli bombing, a total of four fatalities and nearly 40 injuries were recorded.

MSF’s medical coordinator at the hospital, Dr Luna Hammad, expressed grave concerns in a statement. “We are witnessing elderly individuals and adolescents arriving at the hospital with severe injuries to the head, chest, and abdomen, including shrapnel wounds.” Dr Hammad further emphasized the devastating impact of unannounced strikes on densely populated residential areas, stating that such incidents result in catastrophic consequences for both human lives and the hospital’s capacity to respond effectively.
