New Insights Emerge from Araghchi’s Al Jazeera Interview

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi revealed in a recent interview with Al Jazeera that he is exchanging messages with Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East. This development holds considerable weight, despite Araghchi’s assertion that no negotiations are currently underway. However, he did acknowledge that some security discussions are taking place through Pakistan.

Araghchi’s comments also touched on US threats, stating that Iran is waiting to see if the “adversaries” will follow through on their warnings. If they do, he emphasized that Iranian forces will be prepared to respond. Notably, Iran has yet to respond to the 15-point plan proposed by the US, a deadline set by Trump approximately 12 days ago, with two days remaining in the extended timeframe.

Araghchi reiterated that Iran’s primary objective is not a ceasefire, but rather a comprehensive end to the conflict. During the interview, Araghchi reiterated several points he has made in the past, with the new information being his direct communication with Witkoff and the ongoing security discussions. However, he continued to stress that no negotiations are taking place.
