US-Iran Conflict: Filipino Catholic Leader Appeals to Americans to Halt Escalation

Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David has issued a heartfelt plea to the American people, emphasizing their capacity to prevent a catastrophic escalation of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. In a Facebook-posted open letter, the Cardinal underscored that the responsibility for President Trump’s repeated threats of a broader war against Iran cannot be solely attributed to one individual. “A leader’s actions are not isolated,” he stated. “Rather, they are influenced by the collective support and enablement of those around them.”

The Cardinal also cautioned against the repetition of the devastating nuclear bombings that occurred in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan. “You have previously crossed this threshold,” he reminded Americans. “You are aware of the unimaginable destruction that results from unleashing such devastation – and still, you refer to it as a victory. Will you make the same choice again?” he asked.

Cardinal David further emphasized that the unbridled use of power, the choice of war without due consideration, and the justification of destruction as a display of strength are not indicative of leadership, but rather a moral failing.
