Iran won their first-ever World Cup game by beating Wales 2-0 on Thursday. The Asians respond brilliantly after their crushing defeat to England in their first fixture to put Wales on the brink of elimination.
Both teams didn’t have many chances in the first and most of the second half. However, things changed after the Wales keeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off after crashing into Iran’s forward outside the box.
The referee initially gave a yellow card to the keeper. However, he changed his decision by checking it on the VAR screen. The red card was pivotal as Iran became the more offensive side and tried to take advantage of having more players on the pitch.
Eventually, they broke the Welsh resistance through Rouzbeh Cheshmi, who produced an unbelievable long-range shot to deny Danny Ward. The second goal came on the brink through Ramin Razaeian, who chipped the ball past the second-choice Welsh keeper to secure the win.Â
