Lahore Qalandars have made a strategic move by signing Charith Asalanka, a seasoned Sri Lankan batting all-rounder, to replace Parvez Hossain Emon for the remainder of Pakistan Super League (PSL 11). This decision comes on the heels of Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper-batter Parvez Hossain Emon being forced to sit out due to a shoulder injury sustained during a recent match against Multan Sultans in Lahore. The injury, which occurred as a result of a collision with Asif Ali, has left Emon with a ligament tear, effectively ending his participation after just three appearances this season. Asalanka, a skilled left-handed batter who also offers part-time off-spin, brings a wealth of international experience, having represented Sri Lanka across all formats. His inclusion is expected to provide much-needed stability and depth to Lahore’s middle order as the franchise gears up for the final stretch of the competition. Asalanka is set to join the squad ahead of their crucial fixture against Quetta Gladiators on April 17. Lahore’s campaign so far has been marred by inconsistency, with the team currently languishing in sixth place on the table after securing just two wins from five matches. Their recent outing against Peshawar Zalmi only highlighted their struggles, as they were bowled out for 97 in 17 overs while chasing a target of 174. Peshawar Zalmi, who batted first, posted 173 for 7 in 20 overs, with Kusal Mendis leading the scoring with 74 off 48 balls, including five fours and four sixes. Babar Azam added 43 off 40 balls, while Michael Bracewell contributed a quick 21 off 10 deliveries. In response, Lahore’s batting lineup failed to gain momentum, with Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique scoring 21 runs each, while Dunith Wellalage added 20. The team was ultimately dismissed for under 100. Zalmi captain Shaheen Afridi led the bowling effort with figures of 3 for 22 in four overs, while Bracewell and Sufiyan Muqeem claimed three wickets each, with Mustafizur Rahman taking two. Ubaid Shah, Usama Mir, Nahid Rana, Shoriful Islam, and Aamer Jamal each took one wicket.
