Macron Confirms Release of Two French Nationals from Iran

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that two French nationals, Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who had been imprisoned in Iran for over three years, are now free to leave the country. According to Macron, Kohler and Paris, who had been accused of spying charges that their families disputed, are currently en route back to France. Macron expressed gratitude to the Omani authorities for facilitating their release. The two individuals were initially detained in May 2022 while visiting Iran, prompting France to condemn their imprisonment as unjustified and baseless. Following their release from prison late last year, Kohler and Paris had been residing in French diplomatic premises in Tehran.
