Peshawar Zalmi claimed their second victory in PSL 11, edging out the winless Hyderabad Kingsmen by four wickets at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium. The visitors successfully chased down 146, overcoming a few wobbly moments in the final overs. A crucial partnership between Babar Azam and Kusal Mendis provided the foundation for the chase, while Iftikhar Ahmed sealed the win with an impressive cameo. The Zalmi innings received an early setback with the loss of Mohammad Haris, who scored 11 off just six deliveries. However, Babar and Mendis steadied the ship with a valuable partnership that kept their team in the hunt. Mendis contributed 27 runs off 23 balls before being dismissed by Saim Ayub, who provided Hyderabad with a vital breakthrough. Michael Bracewell then chipped in with 25 off 19 balls, forming another useful partnership with Babar to maintain Zalmi’s control. Babar looked poised for a match-winning performance before falling for 43 off 37 balls, having hit six fours. Hyderabad’s late resurgence saw them pick up quick wickets, with Farhan Yousaf scoring 15 and Abdul Samad being dismissed cheaply. This left Zalmi needing a composed finish, which Iftikhar delivered with an unbeaten 15 off 10 balls. Aamer Jamal also played a crucial role in securing the win with four wickets to spare. Earlier, Hyderabad Kingsmen were bowled out for 145 in 18.2 overs, failing to capitalise on a few promising partnerships. The innings began strongly through Maaz Sadaqat and Saim Ayub, but Iftikhar Ahmed’s all-round skills soon turned the tide in Zalmi’s favour. He removed Sadaqat for 17, followed by Saim for 14 and Usman Khan for a duck, leaving Hyderabad in trouble. Iftikhar added another wicket by dismissing Sharjeel Khan, putting Zalmi firmly in charge. Hyderabad recovered through Marnus Labuschagne and Kusal Perera, who formed a valuable partnership to revive their innings. Labuschagne scored 27, while Perera top-scored with 58 off 35 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. However, Sufiyan Muqeem’s impressive spell in the lower order saw him remove Labuschagne, followed by Irfan Khan Niazi, Perera, and Maheesh Theekshana. Iftikhar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem were the standout bowlers for Zalmi, each taking four wickets. Iftikhar finished with 4/21, while Sufiyan returned 4/32, restricting Hyderabad to below the 150-run mark.
