Quetta Gladiators’ spinner Usman Tariq has underscored the significance of tangible results in cricket, stating that a player’s true worth is measured by their performance on the field rather than their reputation. In an exclusive conversation, Tariq emphasized that his success is not solely dependent on his bowling technique or how others perceive it. Instead, he believes that consistent achievements are the hallmark of a skilled player. Discussing the conditions in Karachi, Tariq noted that recent pitches have been more conducive to slow bowlers. Having previously competed in the Sindh Premier League, he acknowledged that he has a solid understanding of the local conditions, but emphasized that the final strategy will be determined after assessing the pitch on match day. Tariq made it clear that his primary objective in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) is to contribute to his team’s success and help Quetta Gladiators claim the championship title. Reflecting on his growth as a player, he stated that exposure to international cricket has boosted his confidence and strengthened his mental approach, enabling him to perform better in league competitions. He also highlighted that franchise cricket comes with higher expectations, which increases a player’s sense of responsibility. When asked about targeting specific batters, Usman Tariq said he does not focus on individual opponents, stressing that every wicket is equally valuable because each batter presents a unique challenge. Addressing ongoing discussions about his bowling action, Tariq reiterated that performance is more important than reputation. He explained that his strategy is to restrict batters from playing in their preferred scoring areas and force them to adapt to his plan. Commenting on modern T20 cricket, Tariq noted that the format has become more favorable for batters, making it more challenging for bowlers to succeed without strong skills and clear strategies. He added that his bowling approach changes depending on the match situation, including reading a batter’s intent and deciding whether to apply pressure through dot balls or encourage risky shots. On the issue of crowd absence, Tariq said that fans play a vital role in creating the league’s atmosphere. He expressed hope that improving regional conditions will allow spectators to return to stadiums soon, noting that the PSL continues to generate strong public interest.
