GDP Growth Target Missed, 3.7% GDP Growth Approved for Current Fiscal Year

Islamabad: The target of a 4.2% increase in GDP for the current fiscal year was not achieved, and the National Accounts Committee has approved a 3.7% GDP growth rate for the year. The committee, chaired by the Secretary of Planning, gave provisional approval for the 3.7% growth. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the large‑industry sector grew 6.11% during the year, agriculture grew 2.89%, the industrial sector recorded 3.51% growth against a 4.3% target, and the services sector posted a modestly higher 4.09% growth versus the 4% goal. The bureau’s report shows that the economy expanded by $44 billion to $452.10 billion, and per‑capita annual income rose 9% to PKR 533,629. Fixed capital investment rose 10.9% to PKR 16,071 billion, with private investment up 12.8% and public‑sector investment up 11.6%; general government fixed capital investment increased 3.9%. Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that without the Middle East conflict, economic growth could have reached 4%.
